The cross-body loop is overlayed with high-luminance reflective fabric to ensure safety at night. We consciously avoid environmentally hazardous materials like nylon, plastic or leather as primary components and our belts can be repaired in case of damage, ensuring longevity and enabling many more years of use.(Paid service).
DESIGN
With the design inspired by the Sam Brown Belt design for cavalry and riding uniforms. The shapeand angle of the cross-body loop is based on the traditional Japanese martial art uniform's v-shape lapel, which, together with the flat belt shape, ensures the leash fits the body securely and comfortably. To increase the strength and durability of the belt, the belt is made of sturdy cotton canvas folded in four layers.
TEXTILE
The finest quality canvas fabric, which brings a pleasant texture unique to cotton, is an ESC original textile made by the excellent craftsmanship of canvas maker in Shiga Prefecture, which has inherited the traditional Takashima sailcloth quality for generations. Only natural-origin materials are used thoroughly, even for the pigments. This 100% organic cotton-made belt is biologically ethical and significantly reduces environmental impact when compared to the conventional ones made from leather or petroleum-derived materials. It is woven with unbleached yarns enhancing the comfortably rich texture and colour of the premium cotton. Also, the organic canvas’s texture evolves over time and use, a distinctive characteristic that adds depth to its quality.
NATURAL DYEING
Iron Grey (mineral dye): Our focus was on harnessing the rich colours of traditional Japanese mineral dyeing, an ancient technique believed to enhance the suppleness of the thread, as well as offering insect-repellent and deodorising properties.
The unique iron powder dyeing procedure was meticulously carried out by skilled dyeing artisans at a renowned studio in Tokyo, using upcycled iron powder sourced from shipbuilders in the Hiroshima-prefecture. This mineral dye evokes the authentic colour and texture of iron itself. The natural changes in both the colour and texture are to be enjoyed, much like with indigo-dyed denim garments.
[ Due to the nature of the dye, changes in texture and gradual colour fading are to be expected as a result of friction over time.]
CREATION
This garment was meticulously manufactured in GIFU, Japan.

ATTENTION
Mineral pigment dye: This iron powder dyeing is done by hand by dyeing artisans, so there is some unevenness in the colour. Due to the nature of the dye, changes in texture and colour fading due to friction and water-rinsing will occur over time. The natural changes in colour and texture are to be enjoyed, similar to indigo-dyed denim garments.
Wear and store in dry conditions, as prolonged exposure to moisture and high temperatures may cause discolouration, colour migration and odours. If sand or dirt adheres to the product, remove it with a dry cloth or soft brush. For water-soluble stains, hand wash the soiled area in room temperature water and be sure to dry it in its original shape before use. Use only neutral agents if necessary and never use alkaline agents, bleach, fabric softeners or brighteners.
Retroreflective fabric: Strong friction against the surface may cause the reflective material to peel off. Acidic and alkali chemicals, oil, grease, sweat and other contaminants may discolour the fabric or reduce the reflective performance due to chemical reactions. If water-soluble dirt adheres, wipe it off with a wet cloth and dry it before use.
